Donald Freely

Overland Park

Donald L. Freely, 90, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.  He was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1930 to Glenn C. and Alma Freely.  He moved to Johnson County, Kansas in 1938.  Don studied Mechanical Engineering at Kansas University and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.  Don married his college sweetheart, Norma, in 1953.  He was the father of Michael Freely and Debbie Freely-Hall (Tracy), the grandfather of Stephanie VanHoose (Brad), and Matt Hall (Sarah), and the great-grandfather of Colin and Nick VanHoose and Everett and Elsie Hall.

Don and Norma celebrated 67 years of marriage living in both Overland Park and Leawood, Kansas.  Don was a big KU basketball fan and was a life Member of the National Rifle Association, National Skeet Shooting Association, and United States Golf Association.  Don and Norma loved traveling in the United States and Europe.  Their favorite place was Marco Island, Florida where they would spend the month of March in a beachfront condo.  Don greatly loved dogs, but Labradors were his favorites.  See you soon Spice and Meg!  A private service will be held.
