Gertrude Helen Salmonson

1941 ~ 2022 (age 81)


Gertrude Helen Salmonson (Kenton) 81, passed away peacefully Saturday May 14th 2022 with loved ones by her side in Shawnee KS. Trudy was born in Endicott, NY on March 22nd 1941, to William and Marion Kenton. She was an only child. She attended Albany Business School and was an avid photographer. She married Donald Fortunato of Buffalo NY and moved to Kansas City. They raised two girls Diana and Mary. Trudy remarried to Donald Salmonson in 1998 and moved to Lincoln Nebraska. They both loved spending the winters of nearly 15 of their years together in Mesa AZ. After 23 years of marriage, Don passed away in 2021 and she then moved back to Kansas City to be with her 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren. Trudy is preceded in death by her husband Donald Salmonson. Her parents William and Marion Kenton. She leaves behind her daughter Mary Bennet and 4 grandchildren, Breven, Oriana, Akaysa and Rive. Her daughter Diana McLoughlin, husband Kirk and 2 grandchildren Alex and Ashley. Her 3 stepchildren Bill (Tracy) Salmonson, Nancy Salmonson, Karen (Greg) Znamenacek, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. We would like to recognize and thank with heavy praise the nurses, Dr’s, and staff of the ICU on the 4th floor at Advent Health Shawnee Mission These nurses, Dr’s and staff went above and beyond and took care of Trudy with the upmost care and empathy. Your love, concern and genuine compassion did not go unnoticed. THANK YOU!! Much love to all the family and friends that have helped, prayed, and supported our family over the last 3 years and of course most recently. Trudy’s daughter Mary is currently recovering from her bone marrow transplant so her private family service will be postponed until Mary can attend. We would be grateful for any prayers offered for her healing. The family suggests donations support The University of Kansas Cancer Center.
