Margot Bogner

November 8, 1986 — December 31, 2021

McPherson

Margot Marie Pickering Bogner, 35, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly in her home on December 31, 2021.

Margot was born in Overland Park, Kansas, on November 8, 1986, as the second child of Kathy and Christopher Pickering. She grew up in a family where love was given freely and often. Margot made friends easily and was outgoing and enthusiastic. She enjoyed school, family, friends, sports, music, dance, and—most of all—life.

From the time she was ten, Margot wanted to attend Kansas State, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2009. She then went on to receive her Juris Doctorate in 2012 from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. Margot provided legal assistance to poverty-stricken clients during law school. After law school, she practiced briefly in Topeka and then with her father in Olathe, Kansas, for several years. She chose to take on clients who were sometimes unable to pay for her services—because they needed her representation more than she needed the money.

In 2019, she moved to McPherson, Kansas to be with the love of her life, Orrie Bogner. She joined the Karstetter and Bina law firm in McPherson, and her practice included the communities of McPherson, Lindsborg, and Marion. She was recently appointed as the prosecutor for Marion, Kansas.

Margot and Orrie were married on November 14, 2020, and made their home in McPherson. Margot cherished creating new traditions, empowering those around her, and fiercely loving those in her work life, home life, friends, and family.

Margot loved most all sports. She enjoyed a round of golf and playing soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, and running, to name a few. She enjoyed attending sports events; Orrie remembers her having a tenuous grasp of football, but as always, she was enthusiastic—especially when the Kansas City Chiefs won.

She gave her time to charity, participating in yearly Brew to Brew events for cystic fibrosis and triathlon in Boulder, Colorado for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation.

She is survived by her husband, Orrie Joseph Bogner, sisters Kaitlin Elizabeth Pickering and Samantha Michelle Pickering, parents Kathy and Christopher Pickering, cousin Asa Lovick Coxwell (Ashley), Aunt Barbara Catherine Coxwell, Uncle James Rudin (Trish), Great Aunt and Uncle Doris, and Don Schatz and their children Elizabeth Wagner and Jamie Schatz.

Margot will be missed. She brought a passion to her family, friends, work, and marriage.

There will be a visitation on Friday January 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas.  A Celebration of Life will be held in the Wesley Chapel on the Church of the Resurrection Campus, 13720 Roe Ave., Leawood, Kansas 66224 on Saturday January 8 with a visitation beginning at 1 pm and services at 2 pm.
