Mary Elizabeth Maroon

March 23, 1947 — September 1, 2020

Mary Elizabeth Maroon, 73, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away September 1, 2020, surrounded by her family.

Mamma Maroon, as she was affectionately known by many, was everyone's "Mom".  EVERYONE loved Mamma Maroon and they would do anything for her. She loved to cook and bake for everyone. She was also always the Peacemaker. She was a true caregiver, selfless and never judged anyone. She thought of everyone but herself and put everyone's needs ahead of hers. One of her few guilty pleasures was going to the Casino and playing the Buffalo Penny Slots. Her favorite! She was truly an Angel and her children and family were her life and her most prized accomplishment. She loved her family, Granddaughter and friends unconditionally and with her whole heart. She was a simple person and the smallest acts of kindness made her happy. A phone call to say "I Love You" made her happy. A card in the mail made her happy. A loving gesture like covering her with a blanket or putting lotion on her hands made her happy. Just a big hug and kiss made her happy. She truly appreciated the smallest gestures most of us take for granted.

After nursing our Father through his Cancer and shortly after his death, she herself was dealt the unkind blow of being diagnosed with Cancer. And although she was faced with this hard and incredible journey without him by her side, she displayed a positive attitude and immense amount of strength and grace. For years, through hundreds of different Doctor appointments, treatments and diagnoses, she was a trooper.

Some Fun Facts You May or May Not Have Known:

*Favorite movies: Include Lonesome Dove, Cold Mountain, Driving Miss Daisy and Back to School

*Favorite foods: Comfort home cooked meals...Pot Roast with Carrots and Potatoes, Dumplings and she loved breakfast! She also had a serious sweet tooth for baked goods and/or pie! (Her best friend Beth made a mean Custard she could put away in days!)

*Favorite music: 50's/60's including Patsy Cline, Bobby Vinton, Jim Reeves, Ricky Nelson, The Everly Brothers, Elvis, Daniel O'Donnell and lots more!

*Favorite games: Yahtzee with family and friends! And she loved playing cards with her Sisters and friends...including Pinochle, Huckleberry Buck and Poker

She was also a great dancer (unfortunately our Dad was lacking somewhat in that department!)

We are comforted knowing she was able to be cared for in the comfort of her home surrounded by family and friends and is no longer suffering, pain free and happy and healthy again in Heaven. She is enjoying a big slice of Custard Pie with coffee and kicking up her heels to All Shook Up or Wake up Little Suzie. She is reunited with our Father aka "Pops", who was "Kooo Kooo!" and made her laugh like no one else could. They are together once again as it should be and headed to The Casino to hit the Jackpot!

We laugh about how we used to joke about her 60's "Big Hair" and "Cat Glasses" and she would berate us for it, but at the end of the day, she was truly a BEAUTIFUL person inside AND out. We will miss you Mom and look forward to when we will see you again! Who will be the Family Matriarch now? We love you with all our hearts and life simply will not be the same without you! Until we meet again!

Lovingly and with all our hearts,

Teresa, Mike, Mark, McKenna and Family
