Obituary

Ronald Edward Knight, 78, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on April 18, 2022 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 29th with visitation at 1 p.m. at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS with Pastor Ryan Kapple of Leawood Presbyterian Church officiating.

Ron was born in Kearney, Nebraska to Helen and Elmer “Tug” Knight on December 25, 1943.  He married Sandy Knight on October 25, 1964.  Ron and Sandy moved to Seattle, Washington in 1966.  Shortly after Ron went to work for Boeing Aircraft primarily building wind tunnel models.  He worked on both the Boeing 747 project and the 2707 SST project.  In 1971 Ron and Sandy moved to Overland Park, Kansas where he went to work for Osmond Models, as a model builder.  He worked on many projects including the large ¼ round building in Corporate Woods.  Ron went to work for LeVic Plastics in 1976 as tool (mold) maker.  In 1978 he became partial owner, and in 1990 became the sole owner of the company.  Ron grew the company to employ 17 people, serving hundreds of customers, before retiring in 2019.  Ron loved to work with his hands and build things.  Over the years he loved to do wood working and build street rods.   Ron and Sandy loved to travel in their street rods.  They traveled from Washington State to Vermont and from Canada to Texas in the ’38 Chevy Pickup that Ron built.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents Helen and Tug Knight.

Ron is survived by his wife of 57 years Sandy Knight.  His oldest son, Mike Knight of Olathe, Kansas.  His youngest son, Bob Knight and his wife Kelly Knight of Kingsville, Missouri.  A grandson, Zack Knight of Overland Park, Kansas and granddaughter, Mikayla Baker of Warrensburg, Missouri.

The family of Ron wishes to extend our sincere thanks to friends and family that have been so supportive, to the staff at KU Medical Center, the Doctors in the Oncology department at KU Medical Center and the Kansas City Hospice House.  In lieu of flowers, the family would request for donations to be made to the Local Kansas City Branch of the Salvation Army, The Kansas City Hospice House, or to a charity of your choosing.
